The Xiaomi 17 Pro Max has finally landed in China, and honestly, it’s one of the boldest phones I’ve seen this year. A 7,500mAh battery? A second display on the back? That’s the kind of stuff you don’t expect in a mainstream flagship.

Xiaomi clearly wants to take on the iPhone 17 Pro Max and Samsung’s Ultra series with this one. But while the specs look jaw-dropping on paper, there’s always the bigger question for us in India: how much will it really cost here, and is it worth waiting for?

Launch & Availability

The launch in China happened on 25 September 2025, and that’s the only market where it’s officially available right now. No global launch dates yet. If I had to bet, India will see it around early 2026.

Of course, parallel imports might pop up before that, but personally, I wouldn’t recommend going that route unless you’re okay with no warranty and inflated costs.

Price in China

Here’s what Xiaomi announced in its home market:

  • 12GB + 512GB – CNY 5,999 (~₹74,700)
  • 16GB + 512GB – CNY 6,299 (~₹78,500)
  • 16GB + 1TB – CNY 6,999 (~₹87,200)

Sounds pretty reasonable compared to iPhones and Galaxy Ultras, right? But here’s the catch: once this lands in India, GST and import duties are going to bump those numbers way higher.

What You Get in the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max

Let’s talk about the actual hardware because Xiaomi has thrown in a lot here.

  • Performance – Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 with HyperOS 3. Fast, efficient, and built to handle AI tasks, games, and heavy multitasking.
  • Displays – A big 6.9-inch LTPO OLED up front with 2K resolution, and that funky 2.9-inch “Magic Back Screen” on the rear. The back screen isn’t just for show—it can handle notifications, selfies, alarms, even little AI pets.
  • Cameras – Triple 50MP setup (main, ultrawide, and periscope with 5x optical zoom) tuned by Leica. Plus a 50MP selfie cam for creators.
  • Battery – The headline spec: 7,500mAh with 100W wired and 50W wireless charging.
  • Extras – IP68 rating, UWB support, in-display fingerprint scanner, and some nice colors (Black, Purple, Green, White).

To be fair, the rear display is the most unusual bit. Some will love it, some will ignore it—but at least it gives Xiaomi a talking point against Apple and Samsung.

Expected India Price

If you’re dreaming of that ~₹74,700 Chinese price tag in India, forget it. Realistically:

  • Base model could fall in the ₹90K–1 lakh range.
  • The top-end 1TB version will likely cross ₹1.1–1.2 lakh.

At those prices, it’s directly fighting the iPhone and Galaxy Ultra, and that’s where buyers start thinking not just about specs, but also after-sales support and ecosystem value.

Pros & Cons (from my perspective)

The good bits

  • That giant battery. I mean, 7,500mAh is crazy for a flagship.
  • The rear Magic Back display—definitely unique.
  • Leica-tuned cameras should deliver top-tier photos.
  • Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 + IP68 = proper flagship package.

The not-so-good bits

  • It’s going to be heavy. Big battery = big weight.
  • Wireless charging isn’t as fast as wired.
  • Pricing in India will sting a little.
  • Availability will test your patience.

So yeah, Xiaomi’s winning on battery and charging speeds, while Apple and Samsung will likely edge it on ecosystem and brand strength.

FAQs

Q: When will it launch in India?
Most likely in the first quarter of 2026, but no confirmation yet.

Q: Is the rear screen more than a gimmick?
Yes, surprisingly. It’s actually handy for selfies and quick info.

Q: How’s the battery life?
Expect more than a full day easily, maybe even two days for light users.

Q: Should you buy it over an iPhone or Galaxy Ultra?
If you care about raw specs, fast charging, and battery, the Xiaomi is tempting. If you prefer resale value and smoother service, Apple/Samsung still win.

Final Thoughts

The Xiaomi 17 Pro Max feels like a phone built to get attention. And it does. A 7,500mAh battery alone makes it stand out, but Xiaomi didn’t stop there—they added a second screen, Leica cameras, and top-tier hardware.

Would I recommend importing it now? Probably not. It’s better to wait for the official India launch, both for warranty and possible launch offers.

But if Xiaomi prices it right (big “if”), the 17 Pro Max could easily be one of the most exciting Android flagships of 2025–26.
